Standing out is a webinar series created for freelance translators willing to improve their marketing and business communication skills.
The Standing out series consists of 4 webinars, specifically designed to meet the needs of freelance linguists, covering different aspects in the area of marketing and self promotion. In order to make the webinars actionable, each session includes both theoretical elements and practical tips, which will guide participants through the process of implement the information provided in their marketing activities.
Although the general trend is slowly changing, many freelance translators still underestimate the need for marketing their services effectively and still rely on "old school" self promotion strategies (mass e-mails to translation agency databases, use of standardised material "as is", etc.) which provide little-to-no results. Truth is freelancers are entrepreneurs, and learning how to setup and implement a successful marketing strategy is essential to stop that well-known "feast or famine cycle" all freelancers experience and suffer at some point in their career.
Successful marketing means more prospects calling in & more projects coming your way. Good news is you don't really have to be a marketing expert to implement effective self-promotion strategies for your freelance business. February 1, 2013 - Standing out: Marketing basics for freelance translators
In an hour, we will go through some basic concepts of marketing such as market, target public, marketing objectives and business goals. We will also go through the most relevant marketing materials to be used in promoting your translation and language services and you will learn how to setup and use a marketing kit that works.
As a bonus, participants will receive a marketing plan template they can use to implement the information provided in the webinar in their marketing strategy and activities.
February 8, 2013 - Standing out: Writing résumés and cover letters that sell
This 2-hour interactive webinar is dedicated to CVs and cover letters. You will learn how to design your CV/résumé for the translation industry and how to craft a cover letter to present your business and services. Participants can submit their CV to get live comments and customised advice on how to highlight their skills and strengths more effectively.
The session also includes a commented copywriting exercise: participants can submit a "cover letter" designed to bid on a sample job offer and get tips on areas of improvement in their presentation.
February 15, 2013 - Standing out: Creating a freelance brochure to market your services
Each target public segment reacts differently to marketing materials: CVs/résumés work for translation agencies, but they are not suitable for promoting your translation and language services amongst direct customers. This webinar will provide you with essential information about brochures and the way people interact with this marketing material, as well as practical tips on writing style and the use of colours and graphic elements to maximise readers' engagement.
February 22, 2013 - Standing out: Crafting that killer freelance pitch
This webinar is designed for freelance translators and linguists willing to improve their in-person marketing skills at industry conferences, business meetings, networking events etc.
In an hour, this webinar will help you sketch your famous "elevator pitch" so that it would be clear, creative and compelling. There is much more to say about you and your business beyond "I am a translator" - learn how to express your value effectively to boost your business and hook new prospects.
