For translators and writers, continuous training is a precious asset.
As we learn new things - or dig deeper into familiar topics - we acquire skills and knowledge that will help us serve our customers better. As an added bonus, we get the opportunity to learn with (and from) our peers.
However, this is only true when courses align with the needs of the students.
I've learned it the hard way, i.e. investing time and money in "thin" courses that underdelivered.
That's why I wanted my own courses to be different ... and worked hard to achieve that.
I studied instructional design and adult education, and also completed a specialisation program in teaching.
To me, valuable training requires a few key ingredients:
- A competent trainer, because “instant expertise” is a fraud
- A practical approach, because training needs to be actionable from day 1
- An engaged audience, because active learners achieve better results.
To date, I have delivered over 60 webinars, conference sessions, and workshops about translation and transcreation, writing, and effective communication at large. At times, I also talk about the ins and outs of managing a solo business.
